Bullions

Bullion counter is expected to trade higher with silver. Recently silver has outpaced gold. Today gold may advance on speculation the U.S.`s economic slowdown will spur demand for the precious metal as a haven from declines in other assets as crucial unemployment report is scheduled today. Gold gained 5.6% last month, the biggest increase since April. The metal rose to as high as USD 1,256.60 an ounce on Sept. 1, within 1% of a record USD 1,266.50 reached on June 21.

Base Metals

Base metals may trade choppy ahead of key economic releases today and some profit booking can be seen at higher levels. Copper prices were steady on Friday, with a slight downside bias, as Shanghai and London futures traded just shy of four-month highs, but the recent run of data-led gains was checked by worries about U.S. jobs data. The market is looking for a small rise in private sector U.S. non-farm payrolls and a big cut in temporary jobs associated with the decennial census, with a net 100,000 decline predicted. According to exchange-traded fund inflow data, for the week ending July 27 was the largest in 25 weeks.

Energy

Oil prices can trade sideways today in range of Rs 3,450-3,500 in MCX. Crude oil futures ended higher Thursday, as a fire at a Gulf of Mexico oil platform turned a mild rebound into a 1.5% rally. Yesterday pending sales of existing homes rose 5.3% after falling two months in a row which gave some support to the prices. Natural gas may trade sideways and can find support 170 in MCX. Yesterday Natural gas in storage increased 54 billion cubic feet for the week ended Aug. 27.

A: Yes, if you look at the performance of gold for the last two weeks, it has been going up in one direction. Even though we have good equity markets and the dollar is strengthening we have not seen the gold prices going down, I feel that somewhere around USD 1,255 per ounce in the international market we have a strong resistance zone from where gold will come down. So I expect gold in international market to come down to USD 1,240-1,244 per ounce levels in a day or two and that would be again a good buying opportunity. So for intraday or with a two day view, I expect to sell at current levels or on rise from here.

Q: On crude though you have got a long trade out today?

A: Last time we had said that we are quite bullish on crude at USD 72.5 per barrel we believe crude has a strong support from wherein we would see a rise towards USD 77-78 per barrel levels. We still maintain that and we would advise going long at current levels or on dips to USD 74 per barrel for a target of USD 76.6 per barrel in the international market. Domestic around Rs 3,540 per barrel would be a good level to enter keeping a target of Rs 3,610 per barrel in the intermediate term.

Q: Copper likewise you have got a bullish strategy today?

A: Yes, copper and equity markets go hand-in-hand, we have a good rally in the equity markets over the last two days. I think the sentiments would be positive and US data again yesterday was above expectations. So that would keep the sentiments up and crude would move higher from here. We have a target of Rs 362 in a domestic market for copper.
